The Right Reverend Cornelius Sim is the first Apostolic Vicar of Brunei, and the first bishop from this country.


Timeline:

1986 - Studied for the priesthood at the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio, USA.

Ordained and served as deacon in St. John's Church.

26 November 1989 - Priestly ordination by Bishop Anthony Lee Kok Hin in the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

1991 - Assumed the pastoral duties of all the parishes in Brunei due to departure of foreign priests.

Dec 1992 - Relieved of pastoral duties of Assumption parish, while continuing to minister to the Seria and Kuala Belait parishes.

Jan 1996 - Appointed as the Vicar General of the Diocese of Miri-Brunei.

21 November 1997 - Appointed first Apostolic Prefect, with the creation of the Apostolic Prefecture of Brunei Darussalam.

22 February 1998 - Installed as Apostolic Prefect at the Assumption parish.

August 1999 - Relieved of pastoral duties in the Seria parish, being replaced by the newly-ordained Fr. Paul Shie.

August 2000 - Assumed pastoral duties in the Assumption parish when Fr. Ivan Fang took his sabbatical.

October 2001 - Became official parish priest of Assumption parish.

20 October 2004 - With papal decree of a new Apostolic Vicariate for Brunei, appointed first apostolic vicar, with dignity of bishop.

21 January 2005 - Episcopal ordination at Assumption Church, assuming Titular See of Putia in Numidia.
